Teams that play together, stay together. This is why a big part of the YuLife philosophy is to encourage employees to engage in healthy habits with their colleagues and build communities around wellbeing at work.In an era of hybrid working, fostering connection and culture can be difficult for business leaders. Some 90% of executives with remote teams say they struggle to maintain a sense of connection among employees, while 70% of workers claim they don’t socialize enough with their colleagues. That’s why we came up with a creative solution in the YuLife app: team leaderboards. When employees take part in wellbeing activities on the YuLife app, they can opt-in to compete with their colleagues to move up their company’s leaderboard and gain a spot on the podium! What’s more, employees can take this one step further by challenging their teammates to duels: 24-hour head-to-head step competitions where they can compete for bragging rights or a wager of up to 100 YuCoin. Here we’ll explain exactly how these fun features work and why they’re important for building a happy and healthy workplace. What are leaderboards?Employees who chose to opt into the YuLife leaderboard are ranked against colleagues on their step counts over the last 30 days, competing to become one of the top 3 people and earn a place on the podium! It works on a 30-day rolling activity, updating every time a YuLifer opens the app from the last 30 days. As a result, the leaderboard is constantly changing and to keep the top spot, YuLifers must maintain or increase their activity every day, boosting engagement with the app. There are also leaderboards for Yudoku — a daily Sudoku challenge which can be played once per day in the app. This leaderboard refreshes every day, ranking employees in order of quickest completion time. YuLifers automatically have access to a company-wide leaderboard, but their employers can also create separate leaderboards for different teams, departments, office locations and more — which employees can switch between at any time.Importantly, all this is purely opt-in for those employees who want to get involved. By default, employees’ activity data is private and will only appear on the leaderboard if they enable it. So the emphasis is not on compulsion but on fun and friendliness! What are duels? For YuLifers who want to keep things interesting, the leaderboard is also where they can challenge their fellow teammates to duels.Duels are 24-hour head-to-head step competitions between colleagues. This can be just for bragging rights, or for those who want to up the ante, they can propose a YuCoin wager of either 10, 25, 50 or 100 YuCoin. Throughout the day, YuLifers can monitor the progress of their active duels in the app. Once the 24 hours are up, the person who has done the most steps wins and any YuCoin wagered is deducted from the loser and awarded to the winning party. The benefits of community and connectionAs more businesses attempt to build a consistent company culture across multiple site locations and hybrid working models, the need to connect employees beyond just work is becoming increasingly important.By pitching employees against each other via the YuLife leaderboard, teams can engage in wellness activities together on a company-wide scale, helping to increase connection amongst a scattered workforce and build a real community around wellbeing in the workplace. Moreover, those who opt into leaderboards and duels are spurred on by a healthy sense of competition and the drive to engage in social activities, encouraging team members to invest more in their health and wellness — ultimately increasing morale and productivity. If you’d like to find out more about how YuLife can boost your benefits uptake by making employee health and wellness fun, you can speak to a member of our team here.About YuLife.YuLife is working to reimagine the insurance industry by protecting lives, rewarding living and inspiring life.
