Household European leader, Nice-Pak, has always been passionate about building an environmentally-friendly product that’s healthy for consumers of all kinds. On their professional mission to help the world “stay healthy and well, one wipe at a time”, and a team of over 500 scattered around Europe, they wanted to find a way to bring those values and organisational mission into the daily lives of their employees. That’s when they decided to seek a new Group Life Insurance and benefits provider. The goals Nice-Pak has always been focused on creating the best product on the market. And they wanted to start walking the walk in whatever way they could and build the best workplace on the market. However, before joining YuLife, they had 3 core issues in their organisation that they wanted to improve:1. Absenteeism Absenteeism isn’t a problem unique to Nice-Pak or the manufacturing industry. Companies are seeing huge rises in both presenteeism and absenteeism — but absenteeism alone is costing employers nearly £140 billion annually. At Nice-Pak, absenteeism was at 4% before using YuLife. So, they wanted to find a solution to re-engage employees again and help boost their overall mental and physical health to keep sickness absence at bay. 2. Health & wellbeing engagement Employees experience long sitting hours and days in front of the computer, which is common amongst many organisations today. And especially as work-from-home culture grows, people are becoming less social and active. Many employees at Nice-Pak who work in the office explain how a lot of their work involves desk work. “My day is predominantly around being at my desk,” says Mark Lloyd, Project Manager (Operations) at Nice-Pak International. And many people at Nice-Pak and other offices alike will sit at their desks upwards of 8 hours a day.But their old benefits offering didn’t really support their vision of getting people healthier and more active, resulting in pretty low success and engagement rates overall. 3. Overall benefits engagement "Before YuLife, engagement wasn’t amazing,” says Emma Seddon, HR Officer at Nice-Pak. They struggled for years to implement a benefits package that would get people’s attention in interviews, but that also help their staff be their best in and outside of the office. After trying many benefits apps, none of them created the level of community, wellbeing and as a result, engagement, that they were looking for. So, they decided to give YuLife a shot. The Results: Washing away unhealthy habits1. Absenteeism After experiencing 4% absenteeism rates, implementing YuLife showed a drastic 50% decrease in absenteeism, leaving them at 2%. This is proof not only has the Nice-Pak team achieved greater health and wellbeing, but also increased engagement and overall loyalty to the office. But it’s also allowed them a competitive advantage in the hiring space. Attracting top talent is key for all businesses, and Victoria Alexander, Senior HR Advisor & Wellness specialist noted how much she's seen candidates caring about wellbeing and health initiatives when considering organisations to work for. “It's something that candidates were looking for," says Victoria. "They were asking at the end of the interview 'What's your health and wellbeing offering?'. It's really something that people are keen for their employers to provide.”2. Health & wellbeing engagement “YuLife has enabled us to be creative in our health and wellbeing approach because it was something completely new. We haven’t approached our colleagues with anything like that at all,” expresses Victoria. Since using YuLife, Nice-Pak's health and wellbeing engagement and numbers have also skyrocketed — and generated some inspiring stories from their employees: “My average distance covered at the back end of last year, was something ridiculously low, like a mile a day,” says Mark Lloyd. And he says ever since he’s started using the YuLife app: “I’m now averaging about 12-13 miles a day.” But that’s not all: “I’ve taken my belt in by two notches,” Mark expresses. Having the YuLife app in his back pocket has been his “driver” or “motivational tool” to keep him going in his wellness journey.“Generally, you get headaches from time to time — especially if you’re behind a screen for a long period of time,” says Mark. “I would probably get a headache once every 2 or 3 days. I can absolutely, hand on heart since I started — I haven't had a single headache.” Feeling cared for is key for health and wellbeing motivation, and having that reinforcement from the workplace makes it a lot easier for employees to justify participating in healthy habits. One of Nice-Pak's Production Trainers, Borislava Kostadinova, who’s been there since 2007 noticed the difference when YuLife came into use, especially regarding her physical activity. “I only live a 20-25 minute walk from work, but I always drive.” But when participating in challenges with her team, she’ll ditch the car to get her steps in. “I feel much better walking to work rather than driving.” "In 17 years, this is the first app that has brought people together." Borislava Kostadinova, Production Trainer, Nice-Pak."Borislava claims YuLife is the “most interactive” app or benefit they’ve ever had, and says: "It’s a great help for us. They brought a really nice tool to the employees.” 3. Overall benefits engagement The engagement with benefits at Nice-Pak has taken a positive turn since implementing YuLife — with the app seeing a 76% download rate and 63% current monthly active users (MAU)“In 17 years, this is the first app that has brought people together [at Nice-Pak],” says Borislava. And the leadership team is noticing this rise in engagement too. “There’s so much more engagement now with the staff,” notes Emma. And Victoria agrees: “YuLife is an everyday topic of conversation.” But it’s not simply the convenience and fun nature of the app that has helped inspire people to use it. “The leaderboard is something really useful,” she says “We’re having people who are mentioning people they’ve never met, but they feel like they know them because of the leaderboard.”ESG commitmentThe YuLife app has now fed back into its mission around sustainability and the overall health of the world at large — not just within its office. Their team has been incredibly active in donating their YuCoin towards sustainability practises from plastic removal to tree planting. As a result, they have a benefits package that is truly getting people to live out the values of the company in an impactful, simple way. But they’ve also managed to feed their mission right back into how they treat their employees in a way that’s tangible, useful and effective for their team. “We wanted YuLife to be more than just an insurance offering,” explains Emma. “We want the employees to know we care about them” And now they are — by helping their employees stay healthy and well, one habit at a time.
