On 6th February, a 7.8-magnitude quake struck Turkey and parts of Syria with a second quake hitting not long after with a magnitude of 7.5. The effects have been catastrophic.Hundreds of aftershocks followed the initial quakes, destroying buildings and causing devastation. As of the latest news, more than 20,000 people have been found dead, thousands injured, and nearly 300,000 have been displaced across the two countries. Over 380,000 people are taking refuge in government shelters and hotels – and the low temperatures and lack of supplies are taking a toll on survivors. Organisations are desperately seeking donations in the form of warm clothing and food for these survivors and the estimated 23 million that have been impacted.Officials have announced there will be an ongoing state of emergency for the next three months across 10 of the country's provinces. Organisations like ShareTheMeal and the World Food Programme (WFP) are already out on the ground distributing hot meals to survivors in temporary shelters in Aleppo, Syria. The WFP is also providing ready-to-eat rations to SARC (a local charity) to distribute among affected families and will continue to ramp up this support as needed.
