In today's fast-paced world, employee wellbeing has taken centre stage as organisations realise the impact it has on productivity, job satisfaction, and overall success. Increasingly, HR leaders and business owners are recognising that the cost of employee benefits can bring a substantial return on investment, not least in improved employee engagement and staff retention.Central to how the YuLife app delivers on its high employee engagement figures is its reward programme. The programme allowsYuLifers to earn in-app currency ‘YuCoin’ for doing wellbeing activities (like a 10 minute walk or a 3-minute meditation, among other things) which can in turn be exchanged for a host of rewards. These include anything from household brands like Amazon, Marks & Spencer, Tesco, ASOS or can even be donated to a charity of your choosing. The reward model isn’t a new one—the promise of discounts, points, and rewards are well-used in loyalty programmes. However of course, not all reward programmes are made equal. For one, the variety of those rewards is an important consideration. For some, they’re motivated and rewarded by the potential of money to spend at ASOS or Nike. For others, they can spend it on their weekly grocery shop, or wellbeing investments such as a Garmin watch. And for others, it may be the option to donate to a charity that’s a priority for them. But the second consideration is how easy those rewards are to access. If the process is convoluted, or the rewards abstract, they may not yield the same results. If you are only rewarded with points once you complete a 30-minute high-intensity workout, for instance, that creates a high barrier to entry for disabled groups, or those that are less physically mobile. YuLife’s vision of making wellbeing accessible every day, for everyone, is part of the reason why it’s so successful. YuLife rewards get redeemed in the millions. But we want to shine a spotlight on what it is that employees are spending their YuCoin on the most. We asked YuLife’s data team, and here’s what we found! #1 Amazon With the ability to spend them on everything from nappies to technology, to books, to equipment, it’s not surprising that this popular shopping platform seems the most YuCoin expenditure. More people claim Amazon vouchers than any other reward available on the YuLife app. For example, for every 17,200 YuCoin, employees can receive a £20 Amazon voucher. #2 Tree planting with EarthlyProving that people are as motivated by the ability to give, as well as take, is the fact that the second and third most redeemed rewards are for charity partners. The second most redeemed reward is planting trees with Earthly. Teams using our employee wellbeing programme can invest in nature through YuLife: spending YuCoin to plant trees and other high-quality nature-based solutions that remove carbon, restore biodiversity and improve livelihoods. The benefit for businesses is this is also trackable, for their own carbon offsetting goals. #3 Clean water with charity: waterThe third most-redeemed reward on the Yulife app is charity: water—a non-profit organisation founded in 2006 that provides drinking water to people in developing nations.#4 GarminThe fourth and fifth most redeemed rewards are bought in equal measure but are very different. Garmin takes the fourth spot: YuLife users can get up to 40% off selected Garmin wearable devices. And what’s more, Garmin devices can be paired with the YuLife app for activity tracking. #5 TescoPerhaps a reflection of the economic times, vouchers for this supermarket brand are the fifth most-redeemed reward on the YuLife app. Aldi, Sainsburys and Marks & Spencer also feature in the top 10. YuLife users can claim from £2.50 to £20 in exchange for YuCoin, earned through walking, meditating, cycling and fitness classes. Rewards for allThese are rewards that can be accrued quickly and at no additional cost to the employer. And the resulting employee engagement is proof that rewards that are easy to access, and broad enough to appeal to everyone in your business, are an effective engagement tool.
