Our 4 favourite employee benefits insurance case studies

Here’s how YuLife partnered with five businesses, ranging from 50 to 60,000 employees, and delivered on their workplace wellbeing needs

Jonathan Roomer | Co-Founder & CCO of YuLife - 9 November 2023

Whether your organisation is big or small, retail or financial, office-based or location-based, employee benefits insurance with YuLife has proven success in engaging workforces in their health and wellbeing.

The advantage of an all-in-one employee wellbeing app means that wherever people are, they can easily access their benefits with YuLife — EAP, Virtual GP, employee rewards and more — whenever they need it, at the touch of a button. No internet or desktop needed.

And functionality like the YuLife leaderboard — which pitches employees into friendly competition with each others’ step-counts  means they can engage in healthy habits together on a company-wide scale, helping to build a real community around wellbeing in the workplace.

But you don’t need to take our word for it…

Here are five examples of YuLife in action:

Case Study 1: Severn Trent

Sector: Utilities

Employees: 7,000

Severn Trent is one of Britain's largest water companies. With 7,000 people distributed in 120 locations, they provide clean drinking water to over 8 million people each day.

However, because Severn Trent is made up of a group of companies located all around the country, it makes it harder to build a cohesive culture throughout teams. Employees can be in the office, on-site at water plants, or simply on the road, with limited access to work emails.

With a company layout like this, it’s more difficult for its people leaders to ensure everyone is aware of their employee benefits and, most importantly, that they're making the most of them.

Case Study 2: Cloud International

Sector: Recruitment

Employees: 35

In a highly competitive sector, IT recruitment consultancy Cloud International is competing for talent. They recognised the market pressures, and that employee wellbeing offered them a valuable way to attract and retain top talent in a disrupted and competitive employee marketplace.

"Benefits are a huge part of our employee attraction strategy because we have to do everything we can to stand out," explains Director of Operations, Alix Hobbs. "Everybody's paying good salaries, everyone's paying a commission, everyone does lunch clubs and incentives. So anything that can tip us over the edge is worth doing."

Having tried and received poor results with employee benefits through Perkbox and Vivup, they were ready to try something new. "Both were not working at all," recalls Alix. "I tracked engagement with both platforms, and it was literally zero."

But with YuLife, they found a high-performing solution to their recruitment and retention challenges. Check out their results in the full case study.

Case Study 3: xDesign

Sector: Technology

Employees: 400

Growing from 50 employees to over 400 in just two years, this hybrid tech company realised it had to ramp up its employee benefits.

“We’re continuing to grow quickly, and a primary goal is to remain a people-first business during this period and to not lose that sense of community we have,” explains Ciji Duncan, their Chief People Officer.

xDesign was certified as one of UK’s ‘Great places to work in 2022’, and ranked #1 on UK’s Best Workplaces in Tech 2022 — but they didn’t want to stop there. “We want to ensure our workplace is still inclusive, supported and connected.”

And a new and improved benefits package was the perfect opportunity to ensure it maintained its people-first culture throughout this rapid growth. Read the full case study here.

Case Study 4: Capital One

Sector: Financial services

Employees: 1500

“YuLife is the innovative insurance product we've all been waiting for.” It’s not just quantitative research that illustrates the success of Capital One UK’s partnership with YuLife, but qualitative feedback a point captured by Capital One UK’s Benefits & Wellbeing Lead, Jodie Massingham.

Financial services provider Capital One UK had been investing in traditional group life insurance policies for its employees prior to the Covid-19 pandemic. But the shift towards remote working accelerated the need for dynamic, digital tools for its 1,500 associates — and an innovative, tech-driven solution that would support and strengthen the company’s employee wellbeing strategy.
