The YuLife app – in pictures
You’ve heard all about it, but here we give you a tour of the key features within the award-winning YuLife app.

The YuLife app is central to YuLife’s successful employee benefits offering. It’s where employees can access their health and wellbeing benefits, and it’s how YuLife engages with employees on a daily basis. It’s also how YuLife offers data to HR teams that gives me unprecedented insight into their employees’ health and wellness.
And in a world where only 20% of employees engage with health and wellbeing benefits (HR Magazine health and wellbeing report), YuLife is revolutionising employee engagement. People often don’t know about their benefits (despite your efforts), your intranet is difficult to access or navigate, or people don’t understand how and what the benefits offer them. But over 72% of employees download the YuLife app, and over 50% of employees are actively engaging with it.
These are individuals who are signing into YuLife, taking a health challenge, getting in touch with a GP, or accessing mental health support. It is designed around proven behavioural science, and gamification which makes the journey fun, engaging and more successful.
But what does all of this mean on a practical level: what can you expect inside the app, and how is it delivering these industry-leading engagement levels? Here, we take a look inside the YuLife app – what it looks like, and how it works – to showcase the mechanics behind its award-winning daily engagement.
YuCoin
Within the YuLife app, the first tab you’ll find is ‘YuCoin’. YuCoin is the reward currency that employees earn by tracking their daily activity and participating in quests, challenges and competitions.
They can see how many steps they’ve taken on this tab, how many YuCoin they’ve earned that day, or ‘Take a challenge’ to earn more.
Once a new YuLifer has downloaded the YuLife app and accepted the prompt to sync with Apple Health or Google Play Services, we start rewarding them for daily activity.
The amount depends on their earn rate (which increases with company and personal insurance covers) but even if you don’t log in, you’re accumulating YuCoin for your activity, and you can earn:
- Every 2000 steps walked
- Every mile cycled
- Every 5 minutes spent on mindfulness
Quests
On top of your ongoing activity of steps, kilometres cycled and mindful minutes, employees can earn even more YuCoin with daily quests. These small, repeatable challenges are designed to give the more engaged YuLifers more opportunities to earn.
The hundreds of levels engage and inspire people, to maintain and reward engagement, as they journey through four worlds: the Forest, Ocean, Desert and Mountain. Upon completing each world, more daily quests unlock, until the YuLifer can do four quests a day, maximising the amount of YuCoin they can earn.
Complete a daily quest every day for 5 days, and you get rewarded in YuCoin for completing a streak.
Chests along the way deliver a large bounty of YuCoin which can be unlocked every 7 quests. This ensures that those who progress through the quests receive the most YuCoin.
Yu Screen
This tab in the app shows the user’s personal profile details: What level they’re on, ‘YuCoin Power’ (earning potential) and any group/employer scheme protections, such as Group Life Insurance, and personal protection products they have – such as Additional life insurance, or Dental Insurance which are available to employees as opt-in additions in-app as well as employee scheme products.
Every product addition adds YuCoin earning power, and policy cover details are all easily and readily available here, where claims can also be started.
Leaderboard
Part of the YuLife philosophy is to incorporate inclusive features which encourage all YuLifers to participate with the app – because games are better when we play together, whether it’s friendly competition or ramping up the efforts of your team to achieve a common goal.
There is a leaderboard, where employees can compete with the top three people on the leaderboard, earning a place on the podium! It works on a 30-day rolling activity, updating every time a YuLifer opens the app from the last 30 days. As a result, the Leaderboard is constantly changing and to maintain the top spot, a YuLifer is required to maintain or increase their activity every day, boosting engagement with the app, and your benefits.
This is also where you can challenge fellow employees to duels: you can challenge a friend with a wager or YuCoin if you want to keep things interesting…
Rewards
This is where your YuCoin translates into real-world rewards. They can be exchanged for vouchers and discounts from brands such as Amazon, Nike and ASOS – and there are more options always being added.
For example, for 2,150 YuCoin you can get £2.50 worth of Amazon vouchers; for 4,130 you can get £5 worth of John Lewis vouchers.
The Wellbeing Hub
Within the app’s menu system, users will find the Wellbeing Hub – a customisable ‘hub’ of wellbeing benefits. This is where employees can access ‘YuDoctor’ for immediate access to a Virtual GP by phone or video, and Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) provisions and much more.
Policy documents, pension details, 5-a-side football group details to mentor and mentee programme details – your business can add any internal benefit and initiative details to this area, so your people can find the information they need with speed and ease.
Chat support
Within the menu, you’ll also find a ‘Chat’ option. This is where you can speak to the YuLife Customer Happiness team through the App. This is a real-life, full-time team ready to answer any questions. And they’re famously fast (you’ll have a real person responding within a minute), and helpful!
Reporting
HR leaders will also be pleased to know that from the desktop Employer Portal you can easily report on download rates, usage, see how much their people are earning, and where they’re spending their YuCoin. And as the YuLife app is fully customisable, with the ability to centralise core documents within the Wellbeing Hub, you can also manage documents and initiatives you’re running through the app from the HR Portal.
